18 March 2025 – My PhD defense

This photo was taken on one of the happiest days of my life—my PhD defense. But today, it carries an even deeper meaning because it reminds me of someone whose kindness I will never forget: Guido.

There are many stories that reflect his humanity, but one memory has stayed with me forever.

It was during my early days in Naples. I was suffering from severe ear pain. I didn’t know any doctors, I didn’t know where to go, and I was feeling completely helpless. I went to Guido’s office. The moment he saw my face, he understood how much pain I was in. Without hesitation, he locked his office door and personally took me to a doctor.

I will never forget his words, his kindness, or the way he cared for me—not just as a colleague, but as a human being.

When I heard of his passing, all of these beautiful memories came rushing back. It is difficult to accept that someone with such a generous heart is no longer with us.

Some people are remembered not because of their titles or positions, but because of the kindness they showed to others. Guido was one of those rare people.

Thank you, Guido, for your compassion, your support, and your humanity. You made a difference in my life, and I will always carry your memory with gratitude.

May you rest in peace. You will never be forgotten. 🕊️
